While attending law school, Attorney Kelly worked for the Office of Corporation Counsel New Haven, interned for the United States Securities and Exchange Commission in Washington, D.C., clerked for New Haven's Superior Court and was the Executive Business Editor for Quinnipiac Law's "Health Law" Journal. Some of Attorney Kelly's experience in private practice includes business acquisition, purchase and sales reviews, collections, contracts, landlord-tenant disputes, asset protection, medical malpractice defense, product liability, general liability/personal injury, subrogation and insurance defense.


In 2006 Attorney Kelly enlisted active duty in the U.S. Army to serve the "Global War on Terrorism". Attorney Kelly graduated from Army schools that included, amongst others, U.S. Airborne School, Scout Leader Course (Army Reconnaissance School), Infantry Mortar Leader Course, Officer Candidate School, Armor Officer School, Officer Leadership School, Cavalry Leader Course (CLC), certified advanced level hand-to-hand Combatives; and Infantry and Armor Captain Pre-Command Career Course.


While either a Lieutenant or Captain, conducted joint combat operations and/or training with militaries from the countries of Japan, Australia, United Kingdom, Romania, Lithuania, Iraq, Afghanistan, Saudi Arabia and Colombia.


Attorney Kelly's first assignment was a U.S. Army Armor/Cavalry Lieutenant out of Fort Wainwright, Alaska. Attorney Kelly trained his Platoon and conducted a year deployment as a reconnaissance Platoon Leader from the "Arctic Wolves" 25th Infantry Division Stryker Combat Team in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom based out of Combat OutPost Cobra.


LT Kelly earned the Bronze Star Medal and Combat Action Badge while in Iraq and engaging with the enemy. 


Upon redeployment from Iraq and promotion to Captain, Captain Kelly planned the U.S. Army's Global Response Force, and thereafter the "no notice" Stryker Brigade Combat Team deployment out of Washington State for 13 months with the 2nd Infantry Division to Afghanistan. Captain Kelly was a Brigade and Battalion Operations Planner.


During Afghanistan OEF deployment Captain Kelly held the main positions of Cavalry Commander which also included head of base defense (BDOC)and local national contracting; carrying the responsibility of preserving the lives of over 1,000 coalition soldiers and civilians.


While a Cavalry Commander in Afghanistan, Captain Kelly received emergency Infantry Assumption of Command Orders along with taking charge of  2 x Afghanistan Army Battalions and a Romanian Rifle Company to recover host nation and coalition forces that lost freedom of maneuver to the Taliban near the Pakistan border. After 3 long days, Coalition and Host Nation Forces were exfiltrated.  


Captain Kelly was awarded a second Bronze Star, Bronze Star Medal With Oak Leaf Cluster, Black Medallion of the Order of St. George and various NATO medals and honors during Operation Enduring Freedom.


As a result of his performance, upon redeployment stateside, Captain Kelly was awarded a highly coveted second Command in which he received the Meritorious Service Medal for training the future U.S. Military leadership.


While Commander, Captain Kelly performed magistrate duties vested with the authority and obligation to obtain evidence and as necessary, enforce Article 15 of the Uniform Code of Military Justice to preserve the health and welfare of the Company.


Ultimately, Attorney Kelly conducted two combat deployments (Iraq and Afghanistan) and three rotations at the U.S. Military's National Training Center("NTC"). During those three rotations, Attorney Kelly held the duty positions of Cavalry Platoon Leader, Brigade Operations Planner in conjunction with Brigade Battle Captain and Company Commander.
